In a recent review published in the spring 2010 edition of the American Botanical Council’s HerbalGram, a group of prestigious researchers, including scientists from Creighton University, Georgetown University and University of California, Davis evaluated the safety and efficacy of hydroxycitric acid (HCA) derived from Garcinia cambogia. They concluded that well-designed and appropriately controlled studies in animals and humans indicate that HCA is both safe and efficacious. Garcinia cambogia has a long history of use in the culinary practices of Southeast Asia. It is included in the USDA’s List of Perennial Edible Fruits. HCA (as Super CitriMax®) has been determined generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the Burdock Group, one of the nation’s leading food ingredient safety and toxicology group.
