BENICIA, Calif., March 18, 2005 – InterHealth Nutraceuticals’ ChromeMate® has been granted derogation (approval) from the United Kingdom (UK) Food Standards Agency. This certification allows ChromeMate to be used in food supplements sold in the UK through December 31, 2009.

ChromeMate is a unique, patented form of biologically active niacin-bound chromium called chromium nicotinate or polynicotinate that dramatically increases the safety and efficacy of chromium. Almost two decades of safety and efficacy research has demonstrated that ChromeMate, in combination with a healthy diet and moderate exercise, helps 1) maintain body weight and promote normal energy metabolism; 2) promote normal cholesterol levels and cardiovascular health; and 3) promote healthy blood sugar levels and normal insulin function.

“Obtaining derogations for ingredients not currently included on the Annexes of the Food Supplements Directive is crucial for any raw material supplier who wishes to continue marketing their ingredient in Europe after 1st August 2005," stated Peter Aldis, chairman of The UK Health Food Manufacturers’ Association.

ChromeMate Safety Further Affirmed in Study Presented At Society of Toxicology

Further supporting the safety of ChromeMate, results of a recent study were presented at the 44 th annual meeting of the Society of Toxicology in New Orleans, March 6-10, which demonstrates the broad-spectrum safety of the product. The study examined the oral, dermal (skin), and primary eye irritation toxicity of ChromeMate. Results found no acute oral or dermal toxicity at levels up to 5,000 and 2,000 milligrams per kilogram, respectively, which far exceeds the recommended dosage. Skin irritation was minimal and there was virtually no eye irritation noted. A 90-day toxicity study showed no significant changes in organ weights, blood or clinical chemistry, hepatic lipid peroxidation or DNA fragmentation.

“The comprehensive toxicological testing on ChromeMate confirms its safety,” stated Professor Michael Shara, Ph.D., Creighton University Medical Center. “Studies suggest that ChromeMate is the safest, most effective chromium supplement available, which plays an important role in promoting healthy body weight, maintaining normal blood sugar and cholesterol levels, and enhancing energy metabolism.”
