Super CitriMax® Found to Help Support a Healthy Calorie Intake
Back to Research
Super CitriMax® is a bioavailable source of (–)-hydroxycitric acid (HCA) that has been reported to support weight management. The present placebo-controlled clinical study investigated the effects of Super CitriMax on energy intake and factors affecting satiety, the feeling of being sufficiently full or satisfied after eating. Prior to the study, stability of HCA was confirmed through animal tests and bioavailability was determined by analyzing plasma HCA levels in humans. Twenty four healthy, overweight men and women were randomly assigned to drink 100 ml (3.4 oz) of tomato juice alone (placebo) or juice containing 500 mg Super CitriMax (300 mg HCA), 3 times daily for 2 weeks. Since plasma concentrations were observed to peak 60-90 minutes after ingesting HCA, the subjects were instructed to drink the juice 1 hour prior to lunch and dinner, and 2 hours after dinner to deter later snacking. After a washout interval, the subjects switched to the alternate beverage for an additional 2 weeks. All variables were measured in a controlled laboratory setting at the start and end of each study period. Compliance was good and no adverse events were reported. Compared to placebo, subjects drinking HCA-supplemented juice had increased.
