UC-II® Supported by Extensive Safety Research, Establishing a Wide Margin of Safety for Human Consumption
Back to Research
The toxicology research on UC-II® suggests an overall low potential for toxicity. UC-II has very low acute oral and dermal toxicity in rats with an oral LD50 >5,000 mg/kg and a dermal LD50 >2,000 mg/kg.
- 90-day subchronic toxicity study showed a broad spectrum of safety.
- Non-genotoxic and non-cytotoxic in two in vitro Ames tests in Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli tester strains at concentrations up to 5,000 mcg/plate.
- Mouse lymphoma and mouse micronucleus tests further confirmed non-gentotoxic pontential.
- Skin and eye irritation studies indicated that UC-II was only slightly irritating to the skin and moderately irritating to the eye.
