TWO SUPER CITRIMAX® STUDIES PRESENTED AT SOCIETY OF TOXICOLOGY
Safety Confirmed and Mechanism of Action Further Explored

BENICIA , Calif. , March 29, 2004 - Results from two new studies on Super CitriMax® provide additional evidence of safety and efficacy. The studies were presented at the 34th annual meeting of the Society of Toxicology in Baltimore on March 23, 2004. Super CitriMax®, a unique patent-pending form of (-)hydroxycitric acid (HCA), is a proprietary, ephedra-free weight loss ingredient developed by InterHealth Nutraceuticals. One study examined the effects of Super CitriMax® on serotonin and dopamine, two important neurotransmitters. The other continued InterHealth's ongoing safety research on the product. Both animal studies were conducted over a 90-day period by researchers at Creighton University Medical Center (Omaha, Neb.) and InterHealth Research Center (Benicia, Calif.).

Neurotransmitter Study

The purpose of this study was to further explore the mechanism of action behind Super CitriMax®. The study examined the effects of Super CitriMax® on two important neurotransmitters-serotonin, dopamine and their metabolites. Serotonin and its metabolites are associated with appetite suppression, mood elevation and energy. Dopamine and its metabolites are crucial for overall brain function, including memory.

Study results showed that after 90 days, the brains of animals treated with Super CitriMax® experienced a 12 percent increase in serotonin levels. Similarly, there was a 29 percent increase in dopamine. The study concluded that changes in serotonin, dopamine and their metabolites may play a key role in the weight loss and appetite suppression effects of Super CitriMax®.

Previous human clinical trials have shown Super CitriMax®, in conjunction with a healthy diet and moderate exercise, results in significant weight loss, increased fat burning, lowered cholesterol, increased beneficial HDL cholesterol and decreased Body Mass Index (BMI), an indicator of obesity health risk.

Safety Study

The safety study evaluated the dose-and-time-dependent effects of Super CitriMax® on body weight, selected organ weights, hepatic lipid peroxidation and DNA fragmentation, histopathology, hematology and clinical chemistry. Animals were divided into four groups and given either a placebo or doses of Super CitriMax® ranging from 0.2 percent (the recommended dosage) to 5.0 percent (25 times the recommended dosage). At the end of the 90-day study, while all animals experienced a significant reduction in body weight, there were no adverse changes in the weight of major organs or in hematology, clinical chemistry or histopathology. This study is consistent with all other previous safety studies conducted on Super CitriMax®. In fact, The Burdock Group, the nation's leading toxicology specialists in evaluating the safety of food and beverage ingredients, recently reviewed this body of research and affirmed Super CitriMax® as GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe).

According to the studies' principal investigator, Dr. Debasis Bagchi , "These studies coincide with the extensive body of safety and efficacy research that has been conducted on this product since its introduction in 1994. With obesity at epidemic proportions in this country, Super CitriMax® offers help people to millions of Americans seeking to lose or maintain their body weight."

HCA is extracted from the South Asian fruit Garcinia cambogia . Widely consumed for centuries by people throughout India and Southeast Asia as a flavoring agent and an aid to make meals more "filling," it is listed on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's list of perennial edible fruits. Patent-pending Super CitriMax®, a highly bioavailable form of HCA bound to calcium and potassium, works without stimulating the central nervous system, and does not cause changes in heart rate and blood pressure or interfere with sleep, as do many popular diet aids .

InterHealth researches, develops, markets and distributes specialty nutritional ingredients, which are sold worldwide to manufacturers of dietary supplements and nutraceutical food and beverage products. In addition to Super CitriMax®, InterHealth is the maker of ALLER-7®, ChromeMate®, OptiBerry®, UC-IIT, L-OptiZinc® and Protykin®.
