“Weight-Loss” Products Named in FTC Sweep Do Not Contain Super CitriMax®
Super CitriMax® claims based on hard science

BENICIA, Calif., January 10, 2007  –  Super CitriMax®, InterHealth Nutraceuticals’ signature weight-management ingredient, is not contained in any of the “weight-loss” products whose marketers were fined recently by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for making false claims, InterHealth announced today.

Super CitriMax is a patented, all-natural ingredient containing (–)-hydroxycitric acid (HCA), an extract from the south Asian fruit Garcinia cambogia, bound to the essential minerals calcium and potassium. The ingredient has been clinically proven to curb appetite, burn fat and reduce body weight significantly greater than diet and exercise alone.

“Not all weight-management ingredients are created equal,” said Paul Dijkstra, executive vice president of InterHealth. “Super CitriMax is an extremely safe and effective product for weight control, and its claims are substantiated by numerous clinical and pre-clinical studies that have been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals,” he added.  Among these studies are two clinical trials conducted by Georgetown University Medical Center researchers and published in Nutrition Research and Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism

InterHealth’s announcement was in response to the FTC’s actions against marketers of products whose advertisements claimed a variety of false and/or unsubstantiated claims, such as the assertion that the product resulted in rapid weight loss. The FTC action was based on its finding that the claims were ‘not supported by competent or reliable scientific evidence.’  The FTC recovered more than $25 million from several marketers plus an agreement that the marketers will limit future advertising claims.

“Super CitriMax is not intended to be a miracle diet cure,” Dijkstra said. “It is meant to be used as a complement to a healthy diet and exercise program.  And unlike some of the products that were named in the FTC’s action, Super CitriMax does not claim to mitigate or prevent any disease conditions,” he added.

“At a time when the obesity epidemic is growing by leaps and bounds, people need serious solutions to fight the battle of the bulge,” Dijkstra said.  “It’s unfortunate that consumers are often misled by products that make outrageous claims that don’t live up to their promises. But there are ingredients – such as Super CitriMax – that do, indeed, provide a realistic way to help control one’s weight.”

Wide variety of applications
Super CitriMax is the largest-selling HCA product on the market today and is available in a wide variety of dietary weight-management supplements.  The ingredient is GRAS-affirmed, highly soluble and has no taste, color or odor, and thus is increasingly being used as the ideal choice for inclusion in many food and beverage products.
