GENE STUDY SHOWS SUPER CITRIMAX® CONTROLS APPETITE AT GENETIC LEVEL
Results Show that it Upregulates Serotonin Receptor Genes, Corroborating Prior
Studies

BENICIA, Calif., Sept. 24, 2004 – A new study shows that Super CitriMax® increases the activity of genes involved with carbohydrate and fat metabolism, as well as appetite control. Super CitriMax is a patented, all-natural plant extract derived from a South Asian fruit that works on a different level than any other weight loss ingredient on the market.
The study, conducted by researchers at Ohio State University Medical Center (Columbus, Ohio) and published in Gene Expression (11:251-62, 2004), showed that Super CitriMax upregulated an entire family of genes involved in the signaling activity of serotonin, a brain chemical that affects how well we sleep, how good we feel, and how hungry we feel.
“We have long known that serotonin may play a role in appetite suppression, but these study results provide preliminary evidence that serotonin may be regulated by dietary supplements,” stated Chandan Sen, Ph.D., the study’s lead investigator.
The new study corroborates earlier studies in animals and, more recently, in humans showing that Super CitriMax increases serotonin levels, reduces appetite and decreases body weight. The human studies, published earlier this year, showed that Super CitriMax also helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels (Nutrition Research, 24:45-58, 2004 and Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, 6:171-180, 2004).
“The new study confirms, what our human studies and the earlier animal studies have shown, that Super CitriMax has the ability to affect serotonin levels in the body, and thus may be useful in controlling appetite and reducing body weight,” stated Harry Preuss, M.D. at Georgetown University Medical Center (Washington, D.C.)
Genes are inherited from our parents and determine our physical appearance. They also regulate every function in the body. Some genes tend to increase body weight, while others tend to reduce it. We now know that genes can be influenced by chemical messengers from the foods we eat and medicines we take.
“These preliminary findings offer some promise that people who have inherited a genetic pre-disposition to being overweight may be able to regulate their metabolism and control their appetite with an all-natural dietary supplement,” suggested Dr. Preuss.
The new study shows that Super CitriMax works on a different level than any other weight loss ingredient on the market. In addition to its ability to upregulate genes related to weight loss, it blocks a key enzyme that is responsible for converting carbohydrates into fat and cholesterol. Since it also increases serotonin activity in the body, this is good news for dieters who may be feeling depressed or have trouble controlling their urge to eat.
The study analyzed 9,960 genes present in abdominal fat tissue since fat in that location is known to increase the risk of cardiovascular problems in both men and women. Results showed that Super CitriMax upregulated more than 90 genes, while it had no affect on genes considered to be indicators of toxicity in the body , lending further support to the safety of the product as a dietary supplement to control body weight.
Super CitriMax is a patented extract derived form the South Asian fruit, Garcinia cambogia. Widely consumed for centuries by people throughout India and Southeast Asia as a flavoring agent and aid to make meals more “filling,” it is listed on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s list of perennial edible fruits. Super CitriMax works without stimulating the central nervous system, so it does not cause changes in heart rate and blood pressure or interfere with sleep, as do many popular diet aids such as caffeine and ephedra. Super CitriMax is a safe, all-natural dietary ingredient available in a variety of quality weight loss products.
