Protykin® Found Beneficial Against Helicobacter pylori
Helicobacter pylori is a noxious bacteria that has been implicated in several gastrointestinal disorders, including peptic and duodenal ulcers, gastric cancer and lymphoma. Helicobacter pylori infection is present in up to half of the U.S. population [Leung WK, Graham DY, Clarithromycin for Helicobacter pylori infection, Expert Opinion in Pharmacotheraphy, 1:507-514, 2000]. Researchers investigated the inhibitory effect of Protykin® against Helicobacter pylori. Protykin® exerted time- and concentration-dependent anti-bacterial effects on Helicobacter pylori. Significant inhibition was noted at >250 µg/ml at 12 hours. Thus, Protykin® appears to be a natural antagonist against Helicobacter pylori, which may prove to be beneficial in the treatment of related gastrointestinal disorders
