ChromeMate, produced by InterHealth Nutraceuticals, is an oxygen-coordinated niacin-bound form of supplemental chromium that has previously been shown to promote healthy glucose metabolism and lipid profiles, as well as lean body mass. It has been affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) for use in functional beverages.
In this new study, researchers looked at the effect that ChromeMate might have on risk factors involved in Metabolic Syndrome, a cluster of symptoms that can include abdominal obesity, inefficient insulin action, high triglyceride and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels, and low levels of HDL (“good”) cholesterol. Metabolic Syndrome can increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and type-2 diabetes.

“Weight-Loss” Products Named in FTC Sweep Do Not Contain Super CitriMax®
Super CitriMax® claims based on hard science

BENICIA, Calif., January 10, 2007 – Super CitriMax®, InterHealth Nutraceuticals’ signature weight-management ingredient, is not contained in any of the “weight-loss” products whose marketers were fined recently by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for making false claims, InterHealth announced today.
Super CitriMax is a patented, all-natural ingredient containing (–)-hydroxycitric acid (HCA), an extract from the south Asian fruit Garcinia cambogia, bound to the essential minerals calcium and potassium. The ingredient has been clinically proven to curb appetite, burn fat and reduce body weight significantly greater than diet and exercise alone.
“Not all weight-management ingredients are created equal,” said Paul Dijkstra, executive vice president of InterHealth. “Super CitriMax is an extremely safe and effective product for weight control, and its claims are substantiated by numerous clinical and pre-clinical studies that have been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals,” he added. Among these studies are two clinical trials conducted by Georgetown University Medical Center researchers and published in Nutrition Research and Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism.

NEW STUDY SHOWS CHROMEMATE® MORE EFFECTIVE THAN CHROMIUM PICOLINATE IN REDUCING OXIDATIVE STRESS AND INFLAMMATION

Washington, D.C., June 13, 2006 -- ChromeMate®, an oxygen-coordinated niacin-bound form of supplemental chromium, has been shown to be more effective than chromium picolinate in reducing oxidative stress and the secretion (release) of Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Interleukin-8 (IL-8) and Monocyte Chemotactic Protein-1 (MCP-1), important biomarkers that lead to vascular inflammation and reduced insulin sensitivity.

ChromeMate is a unique, patented form of biologically active niacin-bound chromium called chromium nicotinate or polynicotinate that dramatically increases the effectiveness of chromium, an essential element that helps insulin metabolize fat, turn protein into muscle and convert sugar into energy. ChromeMate, produced by InterHealth Nutraceuticals, Inc. (Benicia, CA), had previously been shown to increase the capacity of insulin to increase glucose uptake in human monocytes (a type of white blood cells). Earlier studies have also shown that ChromeMate may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in people with insulin resistance or diabetes. This new study is just the latest in a series of in vitro, animal and human studies demonstrating the superior safety and efficacy of ChromeMate over chromium picolinate.

Exposing cells to high levels of glucose generates oxidative stress and resulting inflammation, which can cause protein, lipid and DNA damage, as well as cellular dysfunction. In this new NIH-funded study conducted in human monocyte cell cultures, researchers at Louisiana State University’s School of Medicine in Shreveport have shown that ChromeMate reduced lipid peroxidation, a measurement of oxidative stress, by 40 to 60 percent, while chromium picolinate actually increased lipid peroxidation by approximately 40 percent. “Under these experimental conditions, ChromeMate was significantly more effective than chromium picolinate in reducing lipid peroxidation,” said Sushil K. Jain, PhD, Professor of Pediatrics, Physiology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Louisiana State University in Shreveport and principal investigator of the study.

The researchers also found that ChromeMate significantly inhibits the release of IL-6, IL-8 and MCP-1. Elevated blood levels of these biomarkers are established risk factors for CVD. In this study, monocytes were pre-treated with either ChromeMate or chromium picolinate, then treated with high glucose to stimulate the release of IL-6, IL-8 and MCP-1. Compared to controls, ChromeMate reduced IL-6 secretion by 65 percent, while chromium picolinate inhibited IL-6 release by only 21 percent. ChromeMate also was significantly more effective than chromium picolinate in reducing IL-8 and MCP-1 secretion. In fact, chromium picolinate had no effect on MCP-1 secretion. “These results demonstrate that certain forms of chromium may improve insulin sensitivity and lower CVD risk by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, which cause cell damage,” Dr. Jain concluded.
The study was first presented, in part, at the annual meeting of the Federation of American Societies of Experimental Biology this past April in San Francisco, and again this past Saturday, June 10th, at the American Diabetes Association’s Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Preliminary Studies Show ChromeMate More Effective Than Chromium Picolinate in Live Animal Models
Preliminary data in live animal models presented by Dr. Jain at the American Diabetes Association meeting show that ChromeMate is more effective than chromium picolinate in reducing CVD risk factors in diabetic rats. The superior effectiveness was seen on a number of parameters, including glucose, triglycerides, lipid peroxidation and total cholesterol.

UC-II® RELIEVES PAIN IN ARTHRITIC DOGS MORE THAN TWICE AS EFFECTIVELY THAN GLUCOSAMINE AND CHONDROITIN ALONE

BENICIA, Calif., May 17, 2006 – A new study shows that UC-II®, an undenatured or intact form of type II collagen found in the cartilage of bone joints, is more than twice as effective in decreasing pain in osteoarthritic dogs than glucosamine and chondroitin alone. UC-II in combination with glucosamine and chondroitin was also more than twice as effective in reducing pain and increasing joint flexibility and activity than glucosamine and chondroitin alone.
UC-II, a patented ingredient produced by InterHealth Nutraceuticals, Inc., has previously been shown to improve joint flexibility and reduce arthritic symptoms in humans. This new study, conducted on osteoarthritic dogs at Murray State University in Kentucky and presented at the annual meeting of the Society of Toxicology in March 2006 in San Diego, showed that UC-II taken alone reduced overall pain by 62%, while painful limb movement and lameness decreased by 91% and 78%, respectively. UC-II plus glucosamine and chondroitin reduced overall pain in the subjects by 57%, and pain with limb movement and lameness each by 53%, compared to only 24%, 29% and 39%, respectively, in dogs taking the glucosamine and chondroitin combination without UC-II. No adverse effects or changes in liver, heart or kidney functions were observed in any of the animals included in the study.
In addition to the earlier human clinical research, a study published last year in the Journal of Veterinary Pharmacological and Therapeutics showed that UC-II had reduced pain and lameness in arthritic dogs. Furthermore, UC-II improved the overall activity of the dogs. “The results of this new study provide further proof of UC-II’s benefits for anyone seeking relief from joint problems – for themselves or for their companion animals,” said Manashi Bagchi, Ph.D., senior scientist with InterHealth. “And for individuals who may want to include glucosamine and chondroitin in their supplement use, or in supplements for their pets, this study shows that adding UC-II to their daily regimen can make a significant difference in relieving pain and stiffness and improving their quality of life,” she added.
“Manufacturers and retailers now have new options to offer consumers who are looking for a safe and effective product for bone and joint health,” said Paul Dijkstra, executive vice president at InterHealth. “Consumers can enjoy the benefits of UC-II alone or in combination with glucosamine and chondroitin, knowing that they will have an effective product and that neither alternative will produce the serious side effects that often come with prescription products or with over-the-counter pain-relievers such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.”
Dijkstra added that UC-II has yet another advantage for health-conscious consumers. “The dosage for UC-II is only 40 mg.,” he said. “For people who may have difficulty in swallowing larger pills, this small size means that even when UC-II is combined with other ingredients the final product will still be of manageable size.”
Strong Market for Natural Bone and Joint Health Products
A 2005 consumer survey by the Natural Marketing Institute shows that even relatively young consumers have concerns about bone and joint health, and are willing to consider natural remedies for these problems. Among the general population, 71% are concerned about preventing arthritis or joint disease and 41% say they or a household member is currently managing joint pain or stiffness. And after age 35, arthritis and joint disease is one of six conditions of high concern. Lastly, arthritis and joint disease is the number one condition that consumers say they would treat (68%) or prevent (69%) with supplements.

STUDY SHOWS CHROMEMATE® INCREASES LIFESPAN

ChromeMate®, InterHealth Nutraceuticals’ patented oxygen-coordinated, niacin-bound chromium ingredient, demonstrated its ability to prolong the life span of test animals by more than 20 percent. The patent covers the ingredient’s distinctive manufacturing process, which yields a product that is highly soluble, bioavailable and effective.

HCA, an all-natural plant extract derived from the South Asian fruit Garcinia cambogia , is a popular weight loss ingredient known to reduce appetite and body weight. However, not all HCA ingredients are alike. Typically, HCA is bound to calcium in a relatively insoluble form that is less effective and unsuitable for most beverage applications. In contrast, Super CitriMax is 100% soluble, as well as tasteless, odorless and colorless in solution.

NEW STUDY SHOWS SUPER CITRIMAX® REDUCES NEUROPEPTIDE Y LEVELS

BENICIA, Calif., April 14, 2005 – Super CitriMax®, InterHealth Nutraceuticals’ patented weight loss ingredient, has been shown to reduce levels of neuropeptide Y (NPY) in the hypothalamic tissue of animals.
