7 Tips To Get Your Clients Running

Running is one of the world’s most popular fitness activities. It’s been known to be incredible for weight loss, and many runners will tell you that it’s great for the mind as well. But starting a running plan with your fitness clients isn’t as easy as hitting the start button on the treadmill. Let’s take a look at 7 tips to get your clients running!

  1. Encourage cardio by easing into it. Running, like most cardio activities, isn’t something you can expect your clients to jump right into. Often, it takes a bit of a transition, especially if they have never had a running routine before. Start with cardio training on an elliptical or exercise bike to get their heart rate up with minimal joint impact. This will help build confidence once your client sees their potential with cardio activity.
  2. Start with small intervals. Now that your client has warmed up to the idea of increasing cardio, it’s time to mix in the treadmill. Always encourage a few minutes of brisk walking as a warm up, followed by a few 3-5 minute intervals of easy jogging. By setting small time intervals instead of distance, you help reduce the risk of pushing too hard, too quickly.
  3. Take water breaks. When you notice your client becoming fatigued, encourage a quick water break. Staying hydrated in and out of the gym is crucial to keeping up with a fitness plan, especially during cardio. Make sure your client doesn’t over hydrate during activity as that can leave them feeling bogged down during cardio.
  4. Set small, short-term goals. We can all agree that success comes from having a plan. Ask your clients to set small, reasonable goals to help encourage progress.
  5. Keep a log. The best way to see where your clients fitness is headed is by looking at the past. Maintain a log of all sessions and use this as inspiration for your clients.  If they are ever having a tough time on the treadmill, refer to previous sessions to remind them that they can do it.
  6. Pay close attention and be ready to adjust. If a plan is becoming too easy or difficult, it’s crucial that you adjust for your client. If things are too difficult for too long, it’s possible for them to lose focus. Conversely, if a plan is too easy, it’s time to increase time and mileage to help push toward better fitness.
  7. Encourage positive nutrition. Just like with any fitness plan, nutrition plays a vital role. Sit down with your client after your running session and explain how nutrition and fitness go hand-in-hand.

Getting your clients running may seem like a challenge, but with the right plan, it doesn’t have to be. In addition to these tips, it’s also a great idea to suggest a natural supplement containing Meratrim®. Meratrim has shown in double-blind, placebo-controlled studies to help achieve fitness goals in as little as two weeks. For more information on Meratrim® or other product ingredients from InterHealth, visit our website or give us a call at 1-800-783-4636 to speak with a representative directly.
