Help Improve Your Patient’s Heart Health

When your patients ask you about improving their heart health, there may not always be a clear cut answer. But there are a few places that can provide a good starting point for people of all ages. Here are a few things to discuss with your patients when talking about improving heart health.

  • Physical Activity. It’s no secret that physical activity can contribute to improving overall health and wellness, but this rings especially true for people who are trying to improve their heart health. The recommended weekly activity by the Centers for Disease and Prevention for adults is 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate level activity like brisk walking. This can help strengthen the heart and improve overall cardiovascular health.

  • Dark Chocolate. While we know that we don’t want to recommend patients to overeat chocolate, dark chocolate’s reputation is on the rise as studies show that cocoa, the main ingredient in chocolate may help reduce the risk of heart disease. While more research is needed to confirm how effective it is, suggesting a small, occasional piece of dark chocolate may help improve their cardiovascular health.

  • Olive Oil. While containing healthy monounsaturated fatty acids, olive oil may help improve brain and heart health. In some cases, olive oil can be used in place of ingredients like butter.

  • Reduced Salt Consumption. Most Americans consume far too much salt every day which can cause damage to blood vessels and increase the risk of high blood pressure. And it’s not just the salt that is added after the meal is prepared, much of our salt intake comes from food prepared at restaurants and excess snacking.

  • Relaxing Music. Regularly finding time to relax with calm, soothing music may help lower blood pressure and improve heart health. Suggest that your patient listens to calm instrumental music during or after work to help decompress.

  • Full Night of Sleep. We all know the incredible importance of sleep. The issue is that many people fall short of the recommended eight full hours. When we are tired, our bodies don’t perform at their best, and we are often easily agitated which can raise blood pressure. Getting adequate sleep can help the body reset and rejuvenate for the day ahead. If your patient is having trouble sleeping, recommend that they set a strict bedtime each night, turn off the television, and refrain from eating within two hours of going to bed.

Cardiovascular health can be a concern for patients of all ages and fitness levels. Recommending a few adjustments to their daily lives can make a substantial improvement in their overall health. We also recommend that they try a supplement containing Sytrinol®. Published peer-reviewed, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled research shows that Sytrinol® supports healthy blood lipid levels in four weeks which may help lead to a healthier heart.
