Setting Clients Up For Success in 2017

Personal trainer with female clientThe new year is a busy season for fitness coaches and personal trainers as many people take the new year as an opportunity to renew their fitness commitments. With countless plans and fitness strategies out there, how do you maximize results for all your clients? We’re starting with the fitness fundamentals to improve your client’s potential.

Educate Your Client. Education is one of the top reasons why many fitness plans fall short of maximizing client results. Take time in your consultation to educate your client on how these few things affect overall fitness:

  • Food. Fitness begins in the kitchen. Remind your client that no matter how much activity they perform every day, it can all be negated with a poor diet.
  • Exercise. It’s no secret that exercise must be a major component to every fitness plan. Even if your client simply wants to maintain weight, they should still get 30 minutes of physical activity five days per week.
  • Sleep. Rest and recovery are important. Studies show that people make better fitness choices when they are well-rested.
  • Hydration. Most people don’t drink enough water. Encourage your client to cut the soda and sugary beverages, and increase the water intake as this is typically a major source of unexpected and uncounted calories.

Define Your Client’s Goals. The new year is a perfect opportunity to set new goals. Learn about your client’s goals and ambitions, and help them define a clear and concise goal. Studies show that only 8% of people succeed in their New Year’s resolutions. By setting a manageable goal, you’ll help improve your client’s chances of success.

Setup a Diet Plan. Now that you and your client have set up their goals, help them set the roadmap to success by starting with their diet. Ask them about their current eating habits and suggest changes they can make to maximize their results.

Discuss an Activity Schedule. The number one reason why people don’t work out is that they think they don’t have enough time. Setting aside time with a fitness schedule can be a game changer.

Set Smaller Milestones. Help motivate your clients by setting small milestones that coincide with their overall fitness goals. If your client is ambitious to run a 5k race, encourage them to work toward running a mile, then two, etc. This method will motivate your client because they’ll be able to celebrate small victories along their fitness journey.

Maximizing your client’s fitness results is a win for both your client and your reputation as a fitness expert.
